About this site
A reference for Bangladeshis abroad, built so that every number on it can be traced back to the document it came from.
Why it exists
What you will owe at Dhaka customs is written down, and it is still hard to find. The figures move with every budget, they are scattered across separate orders, and most of what a search returns is a forum post from three rule changes ago. Someone flying home after ten years should not have to reassemble that from fragments. This site keeps one current, cited answer to each question, and shows its working.
How the numbers are kept honest
Every figure lives in one file
Duty rates, weight allowances and declaration thresholds are held in a single versioned data file, and each one carries its own citation. No figure is typed into a page or into the calculator’s code. That is what stops the same allowance appearing two different ways on two different pages, and it is why a rule change is one edit rather than a hunt.
Re-verified every June budget
Customs rules move with the budget cycle. The whole file is re-checked against the tax authority and airport customs sources each June, and the date it was last verified is printed at the foot of every page. It is shown, never hidden: a verification date that has gone stale is itself something you need to know.
Rules verified 24 Aug 2026 · Re-checked every June budget cycle.
An unverified figure is never published
Where a figure has not been read in the primary source, the site says so and prints no number. It does not estimate, round, or borrow one from a secondary source, because a confident wrong figure at a customs desk is worse than an honest gap. Two figures are in that state today:
- Not yet verifiedBaggage weight
Baggage (Import) Rules, NBR — The 65 kg / 40 kg allowance appears only in secondary sources; it is not stated on the NBR/HSIA customs page. Treated as unverified until located in the Baggage Rules text.
- Not yet verifiedTelevision
NBR First Schedule, Chapter 98 — Duty is slabbed by screen size. The slab table has NOT been transcribed from the primary source, so no figure is published here. Do not estimate.
Both circulate widely in secondary sources. Neither has been located in the primary text yet, so neither is printed as a number anywhere on this site — including in the calculator.
An estimate, never a verdict
The calculator tells you what the published rules say. It is not a ruling. Your baggage is assessed by the officer in front of you, and the tax authority and airport customs are the authority on what you owe. Bring the figure as preparation, not as an argument.
What the figures are checked against
These are the primary documents the data file is verified against, kept in their original form so you can look each one up yourself.
SRO 261-Act/2025/71/Customs (2 Jun 2025) via NBR/HSIA · SRO 312-Law/2025/102/Customs (2 Jul 2025) · Baggage (Import) Rules, NBR · HCCH Apostille Convention status table (Bangladesh in force 30 Mar 2025)
If a figure here is wrong
Tell us, and be specific: the page, the figure exactly as printed, and the source that says otherwise. A correction that arrives with a citation is made in the data file and shipped; one without a citation becomes a question that has to be researched from the beginning. Rule changes are written up as they happen, so you can see what moved and when.
English and Bangla
Bangla is a full parallel surface, not a machine translation bolted on afterwards. The calculator, the tools and the core customs guides are written in Bangla and carry the same figures and the same citations as their English twins. Figures stay in the digits that Bangladeshi financial writing uses, and citations are never translated, because a rule reference has to stay findable by the reader who takes it to a counter.
The longer tail of guides stays in English on purpose. Translation follows what readers actually reach for, and a Bangla page that hands you the complete English guide is worth more than one that hands you an empty list.
Independence

Nothing here is sponsored, and no guide is written to sell anything. The site is built to be supported by advertising; none is running today, and the privacy page sets out exactly what would change if it were.
